I couldn't wait 'till today to get up and cop The Roots album, I liked
the couple songs I had already heard, and I just had a good feeling
about it. Even though I was dissapointed with the last album of theirs,
I was still excited about this one. But, I feel like this is one of
those albums thats SUPPOSED to be dope, so no matter what heads are
gonna say its dope. So I had to give an honest review of the album.

1. "Act Won" (Intro) - Pretty Dope Intro

2. "Table Of Contents pts. 1 & 2" - I appreciate them tryin' to be
original and all, but pt. 1 just sounds like they made the beat on a
cheap tape recorder and left in all the static, it sounds bad, the
lyrics are dope though. Then pt. 2 is just Malik, so you know how that
goes, he's okay, but hes got no business holdin' the mic after Black
Thought, the beat isn't fresh either.

3. "Next Movement" - A gem. This is what The Roots are capable of doing.
A dope ass hype beat, and Black Thought rips it down.

4. "Step Into A Relm" - Another one where they were tryin' to be
original, and it didnt work. The first time the beats goes out and comes
back in you think its dope, but then when you realize thats really part
of the beat you notice that it's wack. And Malik is wack on this track.

5. "The Spark" - Boring beat. Lyrics nothing incredible. Filler.

6. "Dynamite" - Pretty dope. Black Thought and Elo go back and forth
over a decent beat, they rip it.

7. "Without A Doubt" - They BIT the Schooly-D classic, which Im sure
will be a "re-make" to alot of ya'll, to me its just bitin'. The lyrics
are okay.

8. "Ain't Sayin' Nothin' New" - Beat is pretty dope. Black Thought and
Dice Raw exchange verses, Dice Raw says dope shit sometimes and weak
shit sometimes, he's always iffy. Nice cut thought.

9. "Double Trouble" - Production is good. Mos Def and Black Thought
share verses on this track. I'm not really a big Mos Def fan, but he
comes off on this track, Black does his thing as usual.

10. "Act Too" (The Love Of My Life) - Black and Common come correct over
a nice mellow beat. They got good chemistry without question. Done Well.

11. "100% Dundee" - Dope beat. Dope Lyrics.

12. "Diedre vs. Dice" - How many times has this happened, you hear a
fresh ass beat only to hear it go off 15 seconds later....a fuckin'
interlude.

13. "Adrenaline" - Mad fresh. ILL beat. I dont like Dice and Beanie's
verses, but the beat makes it dope still.

14. "3rd Acts: ? vs. Scratch 2..Electric Bugaloo" - Yeah, its dope the
first time you hear it, but are you really gonna go back and hear it
more than twice in your life? Its mad short too.

15. "You Got Me" - Pretty dope, Black Thought can do better lyrically,
chorus is damn annoying after a while, still pretty fresh though.

16. "Don't See Us" - Nice Cut. Simple, but dope beat. Dope Lyrics.

17. "The Return To Innocence Lost" - I really enjoy these poems, I'd cop
a whole album of these. Not everyone enjoys 'em as much as me though.

18. (Hidden Track) - Nothin' special. Average beat with above average
lyrics. Boring.

All in all, I'd have to say I was dissapointed with this album, it's not
any better than the last one which was also a dissapointment. I think
the reason I'm so unsatisfied with it is because I know The Roots can
put out a way doper album than this. They're capable of makin'
groundbreaking shit, but they rarely if ever do. Black Thought is an
incredible MC, and them other cats aint bad, but they just sound weak
after Black comes on. Just not fulfilling. All you cats sayin' "This is
the dopest album I heard in years!", c'mon now, you know you're lyin',
this album is average to good, nothing more, nothing less. Not frisbee
material, but not classic shit by any stretch of the imagination.
Another sub-par album....whats happening to everyone?
