Finally, after Months of false release dates due to complications with their label, and problems with bootlegging Mobb Deep drops their highly anticipated 4th album. Mobb Deep is not for everyone, if you're easily offended by graphic descriptions of Murder, robbery, and other crimes, then this ain't for you, because this is their gorriest most graphic installment yet. 1. Intro - Nothin' special, some eerie soudning keyboards and horns, some guy talkin', doesn't exactly get you amped for the first song. 2. "Streets Raised Me" w/ Big Noyd & Chinky - You gotta feel this. Some dope ass pianos that go perfectly with each other. Chinky can sing pretty good, she sounds kinda like Mary J. Blige. Don't let the singing fool you, this isn't a radio-friendly song, just a sentimental joint. Prodigy spits a beautiful verse, one of the most descriptive verses about the streets I ever heard, I wish I could post the whole thing, heres a piece though "Dark blocks from street lamps shot the fuck out/ park benches is broke, a nigga stressed out/ jumped off the roof and fell to his death, it's real/ handball walls display the R.I.P. murel/ the Sunsets look beautiful over the projects, it's a shame it's hardly the same where we stand at".....Yo, those that were raised in the street will relate to this one for real. 3. "Whats Ya Poison?" w/ Cormega - Some of ya'll might know this as "Deer Park" or "How You Want It?". Much darker and dirtier than the first song. Cormega rips this piano loop..."My techniques leave my enemies stressed for weeks/ vexed at me/ especially knowin' my destiny is near, they fear to even question me/ I'll serve 'em like a stretch of Ki's". 4. "Spread Love" - Don't let the title decieve you, this is NOT a positive song. Prodigy and Havoc exchange verses over some crazy horns and keyboards. This shit will get you hype no doubt. 5. "Let a Hoe Be a Hoe" - This is Havoc's shit, story-tellin'. This sounds like a track from the Infamous, kinda basic but still bangin' with that sound effect that sounds like a chainsaw that he used on alot of Infamous tracks. He pretty much talks about how no matter what you gotta keep in mind that a bitch is gonna be a bitch, and a nigga is gonna be a nigga, so don't put anything past 'em. "Chillin' at her crib, layin' in my boxers/ while Shorty got bent, spittin' the latest gossip/ didn't wanna hear it, in the middle cut her off/ smacked her on the ass, lit a stoag and grabbed her by the draws"...... "I'm Going Out" w/ Lil' Cease - When I saw that Lil' Cease was on there I was heated, but Lil' Cease not only holds his own on the track, he rips that shit. "Clear the block out with just the echo/ trust me, niggas don't wanna see my let go/ nigas don't wanna see the tech blow/ my shots move the crowd like Techno". This beat is sick, some ill ass strings with a dope bassline. Another classic Mobb chorus too. "Allustrious" - Alot of ya'll heard this, It was on a soundtrack, I can't remember which one though. Some eerie keyboards and hard drum kicks, done well. Decent lyrics, they both could've come better. Dope chorus though. "Adrenaline" - A perfect name for this song, this shit will get you mad hype. Bangin' bassline and hard ass drum kicks with dope ass lyrics. Maybe my favorite song on the album. "Where Ya From" w/ 8-Ball" - I didn't think this collaboration would work either, but it worked out well. 8-Ball grew on me, I used to hate him but he's not that bad at all. This is one of three songs on the album that Havoc didn't produce, Suave House made this beat, but it's bangin'. They all come nice over this track. "Quiet Storm" - Nothin' really needs to be said about this, everyone already heard it. Flawless lyrics over a great beat. Havoc used that White Lines bassline to perfection. "Where Ya Heart At?" - This also might be my favorite song on the album. This shit is deep, you gotta feel this. A perfect beat with deep lyrics and a great chorus. Noyd Interlude - No point to this at all. "Can't Fuck Wit' It" w/ Raekwon - This beat makes me nervous, but it's dope. Mad uptempo, with dope lyrics. Another song that'll get you hype. I'll admit, Havocs beats used to sound sort of similar, but he can come mad different with his beats now, this sing is proof of that. "Thug Muzik" w/ The Infamous Mobb - Alchemist produced this track, and he came correct with it, kind of bit Havocs techniques but it's still bangin'. Prodigy's verse is great, but them Infamous Mobb niggas are kinda wack, this song would've been way better with just Havoc and Prodigy. "Murda Muzik" - This beat is pretty simple but it's dope. Dope bassline with some nice strings. Basic Mobb shit, still dope though. "The Realest" w/ Kool G. Rap - I was dissapointed with this. G. Rap's verse is great, the Mobb comes correct, and the chorus is dope, but this beat is just too slow. Alchemist made the beat, and Havoc should've smacked him for it. This song couldve been great with a dope beat. Remix please. "U.S.A." - Ya'll might know this as "Aight Then". Another uptempo beat, this shit is bangin' though. Classic chorus "This goes out to my M.O.B.B., and my outta state niggas reppin' N.Y.C., to my Duns up in the clink stuck in the bing, for my Dogs on the corner that cook they own weight, for young Lords livin' like old time kings, and old timers puttin' young bloods on to things, just a lil' somethin' for your block to sing, can you relate? do you feel me? Aight then". I'm noticing at this point that theres alot of shit to dance to on this album, but I don't mean like some commercial shit, I mean like some shit you can dance to but fight to as well. "It's Mine" w/ Nas - This is my shit. Havoc sampled this beat from Scarface, the boat scene to be specific. Nas sings the chorus the same way Monica did on "The Boy is mine", "Ya'll need to give it up, we don't give a fuck, what ya'll niggas want, thug life is mine". They all come mad nice with the lyrics but Nas takes it...."Shit is better than a novel, autobiographic/ spit it on tracks it becomes classic/ start some/ make my heart pump/ spark one/ I'm Gods son/ Nastradamus, last one to blast when the Narcs come/ know how to walk away from anything in thirty seconds/ when you feel the heat comin' and flee with the Murder weapon/ I'll release one shot, you're deceased, learn ya lesson/ your flesh turn to maggots bastards/ you passed it/ cremate your flesh to ashes/ you don't need no suit, no wake, no funeral and no casket". "Quiet Storm" w/ Lil' Kim (Remix) - There is no need for this song. If a remix isn't better than the original then whats the point to it? Lil' Kim doesn't add anything to the track, Havoc and Prodify had decent verses but nothin' close to what P spit on the original version. All in all, I'll say this is a dope ass album. Somewheere between "The Infamous" and "Hell On Earth" which were both great albums to me. The Mobb did it again, they're the most consistent group in Hip-Hop right now in my opinion. You can front all you want, but lets face it though, Havoc is a great producer, he NEVER makes a wack beat. Nobody can spit crime rap like Mobb Deep, with the exception on Kool G. Rap and Nas, nobody can paint a pciture of the streets better than Havoc and Prodigy. I'll be bumpin' this for a while, definitely worth your money.
